The Customer

The Hub Power Company Limited (HUBCO) is the first and largest Independent Power Producer (IPP) in the country with a combined installed power generation capacity of 3,581 MW.

The Challenge

  • The challenge was to upgrade IBM Maximo old version two steps down running on SQL Server database into IBM Maximo for Oil and Gas latest version and to integrate it with Oracle EBS at Hub Power Plant.
  • This had to be done in following steps.

     Step 1: converted the SQL database to Oracle database.

     Step 2: upgrade Maximo up two versions.

     Step 3: upgrade standard Maximo latest version to Oil and Gas latest version.

     Step 4: integrated the Maximo with Oracle EBS.

  • Another challenge was to wean off users from using a home grown rudimentary HSE system.

The Solution

  • Solution was IBM Maximo for oil and gas latest version.
  • This was achieved by extensive involvement of the end users from the start of the project.
  • Hub Power Company is a large organization and there were more than 350 users of Maximo.
  • Although the concept of train the trainer and involving only the champion users initially was adopted however the end users at various levels had to be involved during the gap analysis sessions as well.
  • The champion users and the common user was even involved while configuring of the software.
  • Same was the case during the training phase and end users at grassroot level were involved.

The Benefits

  • The immediate benefit was shown in the reduction of process time for the management of change module.
  • The basic modules of HSE like incidents investigations risk assessment were enforced in the organization with the concept of safety First.
  • Considering the four major phases mentioned above the project was completed in a record duration of 18 months.
