JOB SUMMARY:

The Network and Computer Engineer is responsible for the day-to-day operation of various communications platforms, computer networks, and integrations used by the organization. They provide planning, organization, engineering, and support for critical communication systems, such as the voice over IP (VoIP) telephone systems, electronic fax (eFAX), wide area networks (WANs), local area networks (LANs), virtual private network (VPN), network segments (VLANs), and other data communication systems.

MAJOR DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Perform planning and engineering in support of telecommunication systems and telecommunication projects, establishing project schedules and budgets as required

• Provide subject matter expertise on the current best practices and future trends of telecom and networking platforms in the healthcare industry

• Coordinate with other departments to determine operating requirements for network and telecom platforms, such as performance, availability, call functionality, call quality, call queues, call center configuration, and auto-attendant implementation

• Design, modify or upgrade networks using ethemet, fiber optic, copper, fixed wireless, radio, leased service, or cellular utilizing best practices that meet operational requirements

• Perform LAN and WAN network assessments to determine whether networks are configured to meet or exceed operational requirements, and forecasting potential upgrades

• Evaluate network and telecom platform ROI by comparing utilization and cost to current industry averages, operating requirements, and general IT budget

• Document network and telecom systems and develop drawings that accurately represent the physical and topological layout of those systems

• Coordinate with applicable vendors to create bills of materials for telecommunication equipment and/or licensing; perform vendor due diligence and obtain competing estimates as needed

• Travel to project sites to collect information on existing conditions

Proficiency with enterprise telephony, VoIP, SIP, eFax, and collaboration platforms

• Able to manage multiple IT issues effectively

• Strong interpersonal skills

• Able to help analyze, develop, plan, recommend, initiate and implement systems and solutions

• Ability to follow IT processes, policies, standards and procedures

• Effective communication skills (oral and written)

• Strong troubleshooting, organization and analytical skills.

EDUCATION AND/OR EXPERIENCE:

• 4-8 years of prior relevant experience working in the telecom industry

• Bachelor of Science in Engineering (Computer Science or equivalent) preferred

• Certifications: Network+, CCNA, or relevant certifications in networking or telecom preferred

• Capability to learn a variety of client software packages and databases as required

WORKING CONDITIONS/PHYSICAL DEMANDS:

• Constantly operates a computer and other office productivity machinery, such as a calculator, copy

machine, and computer printer to enter, transcribe, record, store or maintain information in written or electronic forms to track records and generate reports or to conduct analysis

• Regularly lifts, carries or otherwise moves and positions objects weighing up to 30 pounds to repair IT equipment.

• Typically bends, stoops, and crouches on a regular basis to check IT equipment.

• Consistently uses visual and hearing to assess information and equipment.

• Occasionally required to travel by various methods including air, rail, or to operate a motor vehicle to address IT issues at various branches.

• Must be comfortable in both a field and office setting

• Must be able to lift 40 pounds

• Must possess the physical ability to support field work in, at times, rough terrain in order to access more remote project locations
